 Series Overview

“No matter how others treat you when facing what remains of your countenance, or how you surround yourself with mindless followers willing to partake of your evil, know that everyone else who looks upon you will feel the same disgust and loathing I do now. So, Hissaren, traitor of the people, do what you intend to do.”

With the Scrolls of the Ancients recovered, all those with knowledge of the Amulet realize that they are merely at the beginning of their quest. Worse, they discern that fulfillment of the prophecy will require the cooperation of all the races, which outside the Timrod is far from reality, and perhaps completely unrealistic. Still, they know there may be no better time to attempt some level of reconciliation. Thus, members of the Timrod now have a dubious assignment, seeking the involvement of the Human Resistance and Álvish leaders; pursuing the nomad Animries spread across the land is impractical. No one can predict who will choose to contribute, and if anyone does, whether civil discourse will ensue; any new participants will join the Idors, already firmly committed to the common goals of removing the evil grip of Hissaren and Goraz on the land. The Scrolls promise to unveil much of the lost history of Mortica, but will those truths serve to heal the divides or drive deeper wedges between the races? How did the peaceful Idors beget the most hated and tyrannical leader known to Mortica? Can the Álves forgive the banishment of their King by the Idorian ruler in Goraz? Will exposing the betrayal by the Álves do anything but inspire increased desires for revenge in the Humans? Will the reputation of the Animries be further sullied by their lack of contribution to anything of meaning or culture?

In this expansive sequel to Book I (The Amulet) that looks back at the history of Mortica, the assembled group must somehow overcome centuries of animosity and distrust to forge an alliance to stand against Goraz, or the promise of the Amulet and the Scrolls may merely serve as a inadequate dam, quickly overcome by the floodwaters of Goraz.
