Artesia IV is a book of revelation. At the request of the new young Kings, Myrddin agrees to tell the story of his past, including the four great tragic disappointments of his life, one of which still haunts the present. He reveals something of his people, sorcerers and enchanters with similar gifts but different specialties. He explains how one of his great disappointments led to the founding of the Quartermaine Order. He describes how Humans and other creatures came to reside in the hidden basin, including the history of Widow's Keep. He even entrusts secrets to the small group that can never be revealed to others, including the origin of Sprites and the other non-Human Artesian outcasts. As he hinted in book III, Artesia was not his first experiment: he has seen Humans throw away a seemingly idyllic situation before, a horrible memory nearly relived in the fall of Glen Airy. This book reveals the earliest history of the founder and founding of Artesia, and the source of the emnity between the Sorcerer and his friend.
